The “Bridges” Working Group focuses on the technical aspects of bridge repair, strengthening, and protection, aiming to collect, develop, and share best practices across Europe. Its objective is also to foster technical debate and joint work on guidelines, standardisation, and recommendations to ensure the safe and effective execution of these activities.
In November 2024, the group published the Guide on Inspection and Repair of Bridges, providing an overview of key principles, methods, and processes for bridge assessment and maintenance.
The coordination of the group has evolved since its creation in 2021, with contributions from several industry experts. The group is currently coordinated by:

The group collaborates with the FIEC Bridge Working Group to contribute technical expertise and support initiatives aimed at encouraging Public Administrations to allocate adequate resources for the maintenance of bridges and infrastructure.
Current focus
- Increasing the visibility and adoption of the Guide among key stakeholders, including civil engineers, asset managers, contractors, infrastructure owners, and public authorities.
- Strengthening collaboration with organisations, associations, and public bodies to enhance impact and credibility.
- Exploring the development of additional practical content, including recommendations for bridge owners in emergency or high-risk situations.
- Continuing technical exchanges and regular meetings to support the evolution of guidance and future updates.
