Our national association, FEREB, is organising two seminars in November.

2/07/2025

The Belgian association of concrete specialists, FEREB, is organizing two highly relevant seminars in November for construction professionals, focusing on the conservation, reinforcement, and sustainability of concrete structures. These initiatives reflect FEREB’s commitment to the dissemination of technical knowledge and the continuous improvement of practices in the field of structural concrete.

Demolition or conservation of concrete structures?

Tuesday, November 4, 2025 – 12:30 PM
Be-Mine, Beringen

This seminar will address a fundamental question in the field of built heritage management: to demolish or to conserve? Experts with experience in various sectors will analyze how to decide between demolition and conservation of concrete structures, both in infrastructure and buildings.
The speakers will adopt a holistic view, evaluating technical, financial, ecological, and social aspects to guide towards responsible decisions. The approach is aimed at promoting the sustainable repair, protection, and reinforcement of concrete, with a view to its reuse or functional readaptation.
The chosen location, the Be-Mine site in Beringen, represents an exemplary case: former mining facilities whose buildings were restored and repurposed for recreational and social uses after intervening in the concrete structure. The seminar will be conducted in Dutch.

Lessons learned

Wednesday, November 26, 2025 – 12:30 PM
IRIS Building, Brussels Regional Public Service

The second seminar will bring together five key players in infrastructure management in Belgium: MOW, SPW, Brussels Mobility, Infrabel, and BCCA. Experiences and perspectives on the management, renewal, and maintenance of bridges and tunnels will be shared, with special attention to the role of product and process certification in the sustainability of structural interventions.

Through practical examples, it will be highlighted how a coordinated and knowledge-based approach can increase the durability and safety of infrastructures. This event will feature simultaneous translation, facilitating the participation of a multilingual audience.
Both seminars represent a valuable opportunity to learn, share experiences, and advance towards more sustainable and conscious structural heritage construction.
