We are proud to announce that Mª Carmen Andrade Perdrix, one of the most influential researchers in the field of concrete durability and reinforcement corrosion, will be one of the featured speakers at the European Conference 2024: Construction Repair, Reinforcement and Protection.

The event will take place on November 28 at the Centro de Estudios y Experimentación de Obras Públicas (CEDEX) in Madrid, organized in collaboration with the Spanish Association for the Repair, Reinforcement and Protection of Concrete, ARPHO.

The participation of Dr. Andrade elevates the importance of this key event for the construction sector.

Dr. Andrade Perdrix holds a PhD in Industrial Chemistry and has dedicated her career to researching concrete durability and structural corrosion.

With a career spanning over five decades, she has been a key figure in the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Eduardo Torroja Institute for Construction Science (IETcc), where she served as Director for over 13 years.

Among her most notable achievements, Mª Carmen has received multiple honorary doctorates, including from the University of Trondheim (Norway) and the University of Alicante (Spain).

Her career has garnered international recognition with awards such as RILEM’s Robert L’Hermite Medal, the National “Manuel Rocha” Award from Portugal, and the prestigious W.R. Whitney Award from the U.S. National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE), where she became the first woman to receive this honor.

Currently, Mª Carmen serves as a Visiting Research Professor at the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE).

She is an Honorary Member of ARPHO and continues to be a leading figure in technical knowledge transfer on concrete structure durability and safety.

Additionally, she is a co-founder and Vice President of the Spanish Association for the Advancement of Science (AEAC).

Her dedication to science has been recognized with awards such as the Paul McIntyre Award from the UK’s Institute of Corrosion and the Research Grant Award for Outstanding Researchers from the Korean Institute of Structural Maintenance and Inspection.

On an international scale, she has chaired leading organizations in her field, such as RILEM and the European Union for Technical Assessment in Construction (UEAtc).

Dr. Andrade has also authored more than 300 scientific papers and supervised around thirty doctoral theses, cementing her role as a mentor to new generations of researchers.

Her active participation in international scientific committees and collaborations with institutions and universities across the globe has made her a global reference in concrete reinforcement and protection.
