The closing technical session of the European Conference 2026 brings together four presentations that share a common thread: structures in demanding conditions, teams that found solutions, and lessons worth sharing.
Nils Davant (NCI AB) and Ivana Lipošćak (Ecocortec/Cortec Corporation) present jointly on corrosion protection in concrete, with a focus on water-repellent surface treatments combined with built-in corrosion protection. Their case study centres on a 150-metre-high reinforced concrete chimney — only 25 years old but already showing significant carbonation and corrosion damage. They will walk through the practical difference between hydrophobic impregnation and migrating corrosion inhibitors, and why choosing the right system matters more than most asset owners realise.
Mo Ehsani and Brian MacNeil (ICRI) bring a transatlantic perspective to one of the most unforgiving environments in structural repair: marine infrastructure in aggressive exposure zones. Between them, they combine decades of research, innovation, contracting, and commercial deployment across more than 1,000 projects in 27 countries. Their session covers deterioration mechanisms, the full range of repair options available today, and hard lessons drawn from real case studies.
Leendert de Haan (INECO / ARPHO) closes the technical programme with two case studies from Spain — the retrofitting of a singular bridge and a vertical breakwater in a port — before presenting the new ACRP Guide on the Inspection and Repair of Bridges. A fitting end to the technical programme: 40 years of experience distilled into both a project account and a practical resource for the whole sector.
Session III is a reminder that the most complex repair challenges are not theoretical — they happen in the field, under pressure, with no margin for error. These are the people who have been there.
