Antimicrobial protectants-reducing agents in concrete

In general, the damage caused by marine organisms to concrete is not significant.

However, in particular cases such as pipelines or pipes, among others, the infrastructure might be affected, resulting in production losses and increased maintenance costs.

Therefore, the most general solution in these cases for preventing and diminishing the growth of algae and other microorganisms on the surface of the concrete is to use mortars that have biocidal properties, i.e. cementitious materials are used as a carrier material to carry the inhibitory additive.
