Contractor-required information
Contractor requiered information
Scope of the repair
Following EN 1504-9, the contractor should be informed about the technical aspects of the concrete repair prior to the repair, in order to make an accurate and substantial estimate for the intervention.
It is important to address the following items:
Additionally, the contractor should be informed in the tender documents about all the criteria the owner/contractor wants to impose which will affect the pricing, before submitting a quote.
In addition, all the elements related to the control of the repair to be carried out, both off-site and on-site, by the applicators, must be listed in the tender documents.
This requires recording a lot of data and conducting test procedures throughout the entire period that will last the intervention, so having this information in advance will allow the contractor to adjust his pricing accordingly.
Furthermore, it is important to note that according to the EN 1504 standard, upon completion of the work, the contractor is required to prepare a final site report, which explains whether or not the work has been completed according to the specifications, and, if not, reasons for non-compliance, and advises the client on how to maintain compliance.
Pathologies
A brief description of the pathologies detected in the concrete structure to be repaired should be given in the quotation, including when and where the tests were conducted, resulting in the identified damage mechanism, and excluding all the others.
Severity of the damage
It is important to point out the following items to the contractor to give him an indication of the extent of the damage and the difficulty associated with the repair:
Extent of the damage
The measurements described in the sections above need to be performed at different locations (orientation/exposure) so that it is possible to estimate the extent of the work that will be done.
Despite this, it is not always possible to budget precisely for the actual work to be performed due to the heterogeneous nature of concrete and the different possible damage patterns mentioned earlier. Due to the unavailability of some structures or parts of them to be surveyed (in the diagnosis phase), the margin of error can sometimes be large; therefore, the amount of repair to be performed should always be presumed to be reasonable, it should never be taken as absolutely certain that the only actions required are those initially established.
