Prerequisites to perform rehabilitation interventions

ACRP_technologies_rehabilitation

Before starting any repair or protection intervention on a concrete structure, it is essential to ensure that the following actions have been carried out:

1. The condition of the structure needs to be assessed preventively at appropriate intervals, and continuous evaluation and archiving of the results are essential.

2. If defects or faults are found, further assessment should be carried out to determine their extent and cause. It is usually necessary to perform both on-site tests and laboratory tests through construction engineering research.

3. The most important part of a remediation design is the selection of the appropriate protection and repair principles. It will be necessary to prepare several alternative solutions based on expert judgment, from which the final choice will be made.

4. The appropriate methods need to be for each of the selected principles, including qualitative requirements that must accompany the proposed methods, where the intended use of products and systems is defined. Suppliers may be consulted to verify that their products meet the requirements and conditions of their use.

5. Rehabilitation works should be performed by a contractor with sufficient and demonstrable experience in the execution of repair and protection works, who preferably has a certificate proving that his employees are trained to do the work.

6. Quality systems should be established to ensure that quality requirements are met and that the right repair methods are selected.

7. Acceptance conditions should be outlined, and all documentation related to remediation should be kept in the project management system.
